Notes From Inside The Closet

This blog is for everyone who wants to come out, everyone who is coming out, everyone who is out and everyone who doesn't want to come out. Here, we can write letters to ourselves, to the people we want to come out to and anyone else about coming out.

Dear Queer Muslims,

I want you to know that you are not alone. There are so many people out there who are gay or bi or whatever and Muslim. They pray beside you. They go to the same mosque. Some of them have beards and the others headscarves.

I know our community tells us we are “unnatural” or that we should get married to “cure” this. They may lash out at you in anger.

But it’s because they just.don’t.know.

So don’t you go and lash out at yourself either. Because you do know. You do know there is nothing wrong with you.

And I know it’s hard. I know it’s hard to believe, and actually believe, that there is nothing wrong with you when your whole life you were told the other way around. But learn to love yourself. Because if you can love yourself your life will become all the brighter.

And by the way, if you can love yourself how could God possibly not? Did God not make our souls to recognize good and bad?

Best,

AA
